Cleveland improved to 14-2 at home with a win last night after drawing a bases loaded walk with one out in the ninth inning. The Indians started with two losses at home to open the season but they have reeled off 14 straight victories at Progressive Field and the red hot start is the best home start in team history. Catching Cleveland as an underdog tonight may seem like easy money but it is a very unfavorable matchup. Going against streaks is tough to do sometimes but it is called for here.
It was a rare loss for Tampa Bay as the Rays were riding an eight-game winning streak prior to last night so the defeat should end up being just a small bump in the road. After starting the season a dreadful 1-8, Tampa Bay has won 19 of its last 26 games to get right back into the American League East chase as it trails the Yankees by just a game. The pitching has been outstanding this season for both teams but in this particular matchup, the Rays have a huge advantage.
David Price gets the call for Tampa Bay and he is having a great season thus far despite being just 4-3. He has a 3.26 ERA and 1.13 WHIP through seven starts and after a couple rough outings, he bounced back last game with his best start of the season. Two of his three road starts have been quality outings and in his career against Cleveland he is 2-0 with a 2.76 ERA in three starts. The Rays are 21-5 in Price's last 26 starts following a quality outing in his last start.
Carlos Carrasco returns to the rotation tonight as he has been on the disabled list since April 28th because of right elbow inflammation. It was an unfortunate break for the Indians as he was pitching very well following a horrible start to the season. He allowed seven runs in his first outing but did not allow more than three runs in his last four start before being put on the shelf. The injury brings up a huge question though. The Indians are 2-10 in his last 12 starts against teams with a winning record. 3* (975) Tampa Bay Rays
