The Rockies just spent the last seven days at Coors, opening their seven-game homestand with FIVE straight wins but ending with back-to-back losses to the Brewers. Colorado is currently just 30-43 overall and since the Rockies reside in the NL West along with the 46-26 Giants, 44-28 Dodgers and 43-32 Padres, it can safely be said that it's time to "look ahead" to the 2022 season. The Rockies will play five road games this week, the first two in Seattle against the Mariners (Tuesday and Wednesday) and then will play three games Friday through Sunday in Milwaukee against the Brewers.

The Mariners reside in the AL West and while they are a much more competitive team than the Rockies at 38-26, Seattle will have a tough time challenging the AL West's top two teams, 44-28 Houston and 44-30 Oakland. Seattle will welcome the Rockies to T-Mobile Park having won SEVEN of their last eight games, including a four-game sweep of Tampa Bay Thursday through Sunday. Seattle's been solid at home (23-15) and can't help but be "licking its chops" to be facing the Rockies, who own MLB's worst road record at 5-27!

Taking the mound Tuesday night will be Colorado's Kyle Freeland (0-2, 9.58 ERA) and Seattle's Chris Flexen (6-3, 4.12 ERA). Freeman's rookie season was 2017 but in 2018, he went 17-7 with a 2.85 ERA in 33 starts. He finished fourth in the NL Cy Young voting that season and it was well-deserved, as the Rockies were 23-10 in his 33 starts, including going 15-2 over his final 17 starts of the season! Freeland was awful in 2019, going 3-11 with a 6.73 ERA and then he was just 2-3 with a 4.33 ERA in 2020 (13 starts). However, he was one of the Rockies most dependable starters in the shortened 60 game season. He led the NL in quality starts with nine and led all of MLB in induced double plays with 15. Unfortunately, a left shoulder strain caused him to miss nearly the first third of the 2021 season, with his debut not coming until May 25. He lasted just four innings in each of his first two starts (4.50 ERA) but has been just AWFUL in his last three, allowing 27 hits and 18 ERs over 12.2 innings (12.79 ERA). It's no surprise that Colorado has lost all three of his June starts.

Chris Flexen began his career with the NY Mets in 2017 and in three seasons, made just 27 appearances (11 starts) while going 3-11 with an 8.07 ERA. Flexen was designated for assignment on December 6, 2019 and the very next day it was announced that Flexen signed a one-year contract with KBO's Doosan Bears, the 2019 Korean Series Champion. Flexen posted a 3.01 ERA with 10.2 Ks per nine innings for the Bears in 2020. He then signed a two-year, $4.75 million contract on December 9, 2020 with Seattle. Flexen pitched a career-high eight scoreless innings last Tuesday in a 10-0 victory against Minnesota with eight strikeouts. His record is 6-3 in 12 starts but the Mariners have won all three of his no-decisions, making the Mariners a money-making 9-3 and plus-$833 at $100/unit when he takes the mound. NO starter in MLB has a better moneyline mark than Flexen!

Not sure why anyone would want to back Colorado on the road (surely not I), especially against Flexen. Need another reason to support Flexen? How about the fact that he owns a 2.16 ERA in seven home starts!
